Gabriel Escobar planted his first coffee trees at Las Animas thirty years ago. This small farm sits on a mountainside in Antioquia, where the coffee farms start at 4000 feet and go all the way up. Since that first planting, he and his family (wife Orfilia and their 9 children) have been growing and picking small crops of excellent coffee almost every year. This year's harvest is only 12 sacks, and it makes a great cup: semi-dry with a clean finish, and hints of cranberry, rose, and toasted bread.
