Las Peñitas is a farm with a family tradition of award-winning coffees. Back in 2005, Natividad Benítez won first place in the Honduras Cup of Excellence competition. In 2008, he passed the farm to his son, Jorge. "I am 21 years old," says Jorge, "and since I was a little boy I have lived and grown growing coffee alongside my father." In 2010, he continued the family tradition by winning the Cup of Excellence Honduras. This year, he decided to sell directly to roasters rather than submitting his coffee to the COE competition; this means that we were able to secure Jorge’s beautiful coffee without the elevated price from an auction, and use a fair price determined by Beneficio San Vicente. Colleen Anunu, Gimme Director of Coffee, traveled to Honduras to meet Jorge Benítez and establish a relationship that we hope will last long into the future.

We're kicking off the relationship by offering two micro-lots from Las Peñitas this year. Our second release is an exceptional microlot, with incredible complexity and sweetness. The aroma has complex notes of strawberries, violet, and blackberry; the flavor resolves into muscat, mango, and sugar cane. A rich, full body and a clean and jasmine finish compliment all of these flavors.
