Today in History: Espresso's New Wave Hits 'The New York Times,' 2006

NYT_2006.jpg Two intense years have passed since Peter Meehan reported on the arrival of specialty coffee in New York City -- a few decades after the niche industry got its start on the West Coast.  Gimme and our peers have been hammering away at "new wave" practices, with special attention to barista craft, artisan roasting, sustainability, and working closer with farmers.
We've also been fortunate to garner great press coverage since that September 2006 article.  Once in a while it's fun to search "The Times" for "gimme! coffee" to see who's talking about us.  Currently there's an Insider blog entry and another in Times Topics entitled Manhattan's Best Coffee.  This kind of buzz really helps with the consumer education process.  There's so much to learn about the world of coffee.

What else have we done since 2006?  We opened a couple espresso bars, built the new Gimme roastery, hosted a Barista Competition, and traveled to origin a bunch of times.  Among other things!
