Lansing Store Closing. Long Live Lansing!
In 2007 Gimme Coffee signed a lease at 2075 E Shore Drive. We renovated the space, trained a team of friendly and stellar baristas, hung a sign, and opened a Gimme espresso bar in Lansing, NY.
Today, August 15th, 2009 will be the last day of Gimme service at 2075 E. Shore Drive. So stop by for a good bye Gimme Lansing espresso and to say thanks to the great, hardworking Lansing staff. Don't fret! You can still visit your favorite Lansing barista at one of our other upstate locations.

We will miss our loyal Lansing customers, but some things just aren't meant to be. Happy that all Gimme locations are going strong, we hope to continue sustainable growth in Ithaca and NYC. Thank you James, Katie, Josh, Ant, and Paige for your fantastic excellence on the bar in Lansing, NY. Long live Lansing!

I grew up on Union Springs I have not lived in the area for several years but was aware of the Gimme Coffee Lansing location. When I am home visiting for a spate, I will sometimes make a trip to Ithaca, as I did during high school, for an infusion of culture, diversity, la vie bohem, and whatnot. So it was that I saw little red sign hanging in that unlikely spot on 34b/E. Shore Drive.
I'm using the internet this afternoon searching for a cafe (hopefully with AC) in my new neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY and came across this blog post about the closing of Gimme Coffee Lansing. Seeing the picture of the Cayuga Wine Trail sign, besides making me want to swim and a bit homesick, has set me to thinking about what that unlikely little red sign means. It was a curiosity in my mind.
What I now think it meant to me was that that red Gimme sign was a sign, however minor, of cultural advance. I was hoping that lovers of really good coffee and all their positive qualities were on the march from Ithaca toward the as yet good-coffee-less lands of middle and northern Cayuga County. That may be true still, just not in large enough way to pay the rent I guess. Good effort ya'all. I'm sure there will be a few that miss you lots.
