Bike Study from Inside a Cafe

By Kevin Cuddeback | Jan 24, 2009

At one point in China, I found myself at the C. Straight Café, a 5000+ square foot coffee bar / restaurant located on the second floor of a strip mall. Through the giant windows overlooking the street there was a parade of über bicyclists.

So I embarked on an armchair study of Chinese urban biking culture. How could I resist capturing the chivalry engendered by this pedal-powered pair?

And how pretty, a child and her parent wearing the kind of skin protection we'll all soon need to discover. But holy cats, how about some head protection, mother?

Double the thrill by riding very close to some other family.

She was the only welder I saw...

...but some others were clearly working very hard...

...and others harder still. Is there any doubt that cycling will outlive the combustion engine? Not from my cafe point of view.
