Emily Hurst began working at the Trumansburg cafe in Summer 2007. She took off that Fall to finish her degree at Cornell, and returned to Gimme in May 2008.
In school, Emily was a College Scholar who concentrated in Deaf Studies. She describes herself as “conversationally proficient” in American Sign Language. She teaches ASL, too. Here she is giving the sign for “coffee.”
Her favorite drink to make (and drink!) is the machiatto.
Emily grew up in Vermont, and now she lives on a farm just up the road from Trumansburg.
In warm weather she takes old chairs and give them bright coats of new paint. These are pretty sweet.
And here’s a picture of Emily pouring our espresso machine run-off onto the flower boxes the Village installed along Main Street. Plants love this stuff. We love Emily.

I love Emily too. I have known her since she was born because her Mom and I have been friends since we were 14.
Emily is cool in so many ways as you have shown.
My husband and I are the proud owners of one of Emily's chairs (a rocker). Her creativity is wonderful.
We wish Trumansburg were closer so we could drop in often for a cup of coffee.

Emily is probably one of the best baristas ive actually had the pleasure of drinking their coffee.
