Shoye is one of 45 cooperatives in the Sidamo growing region of Ethiopia.

Photos provided by Shoye Cooperative.

In the Sidamo region, farmers use "garden farming," growing organic coffee on tiny plots around their homes.

The cooperative allows them to pool their resources to process and sell their coffee.

The farmers gather to build a new processing station.

A new cistern will store water for coffee washing.

By investing in this processing station, the farmers can improve the quality of their coffee and earn higher prices.

The coffee is gathered at the station and hand-sorted.

Hand-picking and sorting ensures that the quality stays high.

Only the best beans are sold for export.
